Tactics on the day
The most important thing you can do to ensure success is to make sure that you are confident in playing the game. If you are unsure of your tactics then under the pressure of the studio lights it can all go horribly wrong.
You’ll need to be prepared and ready to play when the cameras start rolling.
If you’ve not been on a show before, the one thing you will soon discover is that a recording will take a lot long than the transmission time. An hour’s show may well take up to three hours to record!
This means it’s usually a test of stamina, so you can make things easy for yourself by getting plenty of rest beforehand.
In shows where you are up against large numbers of fellow contestants, the tension really can build, especially just before your question is asked.
Too much tension can cause your mind to go blank – and before you know it, you could be walking off the set as a losing contestant.

- Clenching and releasing your fist just before the question comes to you.
- Making sure you are breathing from your stomach, rather than shallow breaths from your chest. (Yoga practice can come in handy here!)
- Remembering to smile! The more you can replicate the feeling of being at home ‘shouting out the answers’, the better you will perform.
