Eggheads
Eggheads was an great opportunity to put together a team comprised of colleagues from the Royal London Society for Blind People - the two Alisons, Toby, Mark and myself.
After a stressful time with one of our team getting on the plane to Glasgow without everyone else and having to dash to Heathrow from Gatwick, to get a later plane, it took a little time to settle down before recording started. (A valuable lesson learnt there!) We did gather ourselves together and actually felt surprisingly confident at the start of the show, as we had some solid quizzers in the team. However, we narrowly lost the first two rounds and then it was down to me on Geography.
Egghead CJ De Mooi fluffed the first question: "What body of water is Hartlepool located beside?" and guessed the Irish Sea!
After that it was a rollercoaster of excitement as the questions fell well to me. "What is the area of flatland covering Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire?" "Oregon borders which ocean?" and "The Athos mountain range are found in which continent?
Amazingly I knocked out CJ and the final special subject round was won by colleague Alison N. We thus found ourselves in the final round, three against three and in a tiebreak scenario. 'Who directed 'The Boat that Rocked'? and 'Quintus Roscius Gallus' achieved fame as what? were answered with confidence and we managed to bat back six questions on the trot, before being asked: "What is the title of the 2009 bestseller by Ben Goldacre?"
We had, unfortunately blank looks all round and so we knew that we’d finally been pipped at the post, by not knowing about 'Bad Science'...
